We all know the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, but do we really understand the great spiritual implications of this iconic struggle between brothers? For centuries the church has taught this story as a literal struggle between two individuals. However, the true intent behind the narrative of Cain and Abel is much more important than its literal rendition because Cain and Abel represent something much nearer to us than a 6,000 year-old story ever could. The Bride of Christ, The Marriage Supper, and Meditation
The Bride of Christ and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb…what strange language used to describe Christians who are destined for a very special occurrence of cosmic proportions! But what does it all really mean? Could the language be symbolic for an event that might be a little closer to you than you might realize? For hundreds of years the true meaning of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb has been sacrificed by religiously-minded leaders; it is not an actual event that is going to happen in a far away majestic abode above the clouds—it’s a majestic occurrence that takes place between your ears, inside your head, or more specifically, inside your mind. The Mystery of the Husband, the Wife, and the Church
Have you ever wondered what Paul was really referring to when he used the words “husband” and “wife” in Ephesians? How about “Christ” and “Church?” Paul says it is a great mystery! What if I told you Paul was speaking of consciousness itself? Sounds absurd, doesn’t it!? But if you dig deep enough, it becomes obvious. Adam and Eve: The Story of Awareness Opportunity
What’s really behind the story of Adam and Eve? We answered many of these questions in the post entitled, Adam and Eve: The Story of Human Consciousness, but there’s so much more about the human condition packed in this brilliant little story that many more blog posts should and will be devoted to it. Today we will review more about the fractured subconscious and conscious mind, as well as the need for unity consciousness in order to become whole and healed. Money and the Bible: Prosperity Gospel or To Look Within
Money, prosperity, and blessings! Most everybody wants them, and in the past few decades mega-churches across the nation have developed the concept of “prosperity gospel.” The gist of this concept is that if you please God by following all his rules, God will send financial prosperity your way. Is this true? [Read more…] about Money and the Bible: Prosperity Gospel or To Look Within
Man Is Made in the Image of God
Many illuminations lie in Genesis, but few have seen the light; for centuries Biblical literalists have taught very shallow meanings for a book laden with so many esoteric—or “inner”— treasures. This is such a shame, because contained within Genesis are the answers to life’s greatest mysteries. Perhaps one of the greatest illuminations revealed in this book is the explanation of the relationship between man and god. It’s a lot closer than you can imagine. The Law vs. Grace: Is Either View Really Valid?
Paul is an interesting Bible character. His writings have stirred many interesting debates, especially between keepers of the law and those who live by grace. But the law vs. grace debate isn’t necessary. In fact, it has no bearing whatsoever on what was really meant by the writings of Paul or the commandment teachings of the Old Testament. Did Jesus Believe All Is One?
This week I want to revisit what can be a confusing topic: the fact that God is one. We can all say God is one, but do you really understand the implications? Failure to do so results in suffering for everyone. I already visited the oneness of God topic in another blog post, entitled, The Nature of God, but because of its monumental importance for mankind, I am going to address it again from a different scriptural angle. [Read more…] about Did Jesus Believe All Is One?
The Beauty of Scriptural Allegory
Was the Bible really meant to be taken literally? What if I could show you multiple scriptures from the Bible itself stating that it’s not? In my last blog post, we discussed how Paul himself boldly proclaimed the Old Testament story of Abraham and his progeny was nothing more than an allegory (found here). In this post I will present more evidence that most, if not all, of the Bible stories are meant to be read in a non-literal manner. We will also discuss how the Bible becomes a much more beneficial and powerful tool (especially for salvation) when we understand that it is not literal. Putting Scripture Into Proper Perspective: Part Two
I remember the day like it was yesterday. Sweaty palms. Racing heart. The stage music was playing softly. Ministers were standing around the steps below the pulpit waiting for me and others to come forward. The message had been preached with fire and conviction. The salvation call was out. Jesus had spoken—at least through the pastor—and, being convinced, I was coming forward to set my life straight and give it to Jesus. Why? Because the preacher had convinced me that the Jesus of the Bible wanted this. What exactly this was I wasn’t really sure. But I assured myself that I could figure it all out later. The important thing was that I was getting “saved,” right? I mean, after all, wasn’t getting “saved” by believing the literal gospel story the right thing to do? Putting Scripture Into Proper Perspective: Part One
For too long the Bible has been used wrongly. You probably know the drill. A religious leader stands in front of a congregation and preaches from verses in the Bible. The overall hope is that the congregation will believe the message, repent, and then struggle to live the way Jesus or God desires. Sometimes the verses in question are used to get someone “saved” once they accept the message. But this sort of Biblical perspective is completely counter-productive to what the scriptures were meant to do. In fact, the methods discussed above have wrestled the true power of the scriptures right out of the hands of the people. When used in this manner, the Bible, with all its awesome revelations and deep spiritual insights, has become a tool to promote religion. The only problem is that religion usually creates confused, mindless, or arrogant congregation members. [Read more…] about Putting Scripture Into Proper Perspective: Part One
The Nature of God
If you truly want to get a glimpse into the nature of God, you need look no further than Exodus 3:14. Once you understand what this verse implies, it should become one of the most profound statements in the entire Bible to you, perhaps even changing the way you view life. Noah, the Ark, and Higher Consciousness
This week I want to address a story in the Bible that we all learned as children. It is the story of Noah and the ark. For those of us who haven’t studied much ancient history, this story appears—under different names with slightly different variations—in the history of cultures across multiple continents. So what’s the real meaning of this universal story? [Read more…] about Noah, the Ark, and Higher Consciousness
Renewing Your Mind: What is the Real Transformation?
What does it truly mean to be a follower of Christ? If you have read some of my other blog posts, then you already know that the quelling of our own egos is part of the package. But did you know that when we crucify the ego, something incredible happens?!? I want to focus on a scripture this week which will help us to realize the importance of this great spiritual transformation. I also want to compare it to traditional Christian teaching and show you how powerful it can be to disregard religion and involve yourself with true spiritual transformation.
