You may recognize the article’s title as borrowing from the title of the second-best selling non-fiction book in American History, The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Are You Here For? (November 2002) The author is Rick Warren, the now-famous pastor of a mega church in California. Selling millions of copies, the Bible is the only book it has not outsold [Read more…] about Is There a Better Answer to “What On Earth Are You Here For?”

A History
Editor’s Note: I normally wouldn’t publish an article such as the one below on this blog. It isn’t because it is a bad article (I very much enjoyed it). Rather, it’s because it is more of a personal history. By publishing it I am setting a precedent that is not the focus of The Spirit of the Scripture: Biblical Interpretation. However, since Anny has already established herself as a valuable contributor to this blog and esoteric Biblical interpretation in general [Read more…] about A History
Unconditional Love
In his recent article, 16 Scriptural Reasons NOT to take the Bible Literally, Joshua addresses a matter which is a little difficult for me. Although I totally agree with him that not everything should be taken literally and that the Bible was not written in order to give an exact account of historical happenings, I feel that putting it this way goes too far. I know that Joshua does not mean it that way, but I do feel some kind of judgment in his title, some feeling of superiority and also duality, right versus wrong. I also feel it will hurt the feelings of people who honestly believe that everything is meant to be taken literally and certainly will not make them willing to listen to any explanations.
In Judaism there are four different levels [Read more…] about Unconditional Love
Transmuting Sexual Energy: Can this Teaching be found in the Bible?
When I began looking into the esoteric teachings of other religions, I found many of them taught it was possible to transmute sexual energy into something that could bring healing and even longer life. It’s was an intriguing idea that made a lot of sense once I understood the basics, so my next question quickly became, is the same teaching in the Bible?
Absolutely. [Read more…] about Transmuting Sexual Energy: Can this Teaching be found in the Bible?
The Three Wise Men Bearing Gifts to Baby Jesus
As a boy, I attended many a quaint Christmas nativity scene with baby Jesus in a manger surrounded by heralding angels, donkeys, Mary and Joseph, and bright lights illuminating the magical moment commemorating the birth of a boy who would grow to be the Christ. It was always in the countryside, usually on a clear, cold winter night. I can still taste the tart cider in the cup that warmed my hands as I wondered at what the entire scene meant. Of course I was taught [Read more…] about The Three Wise Men Bearing Gifts to Baby Jesus
Could God Really be Outside of his Creation?
Is it possible for God to really be an independent, outside observer of our universe, as some Theologians have long maintained? In religion, this view is known as transcendence. An opposing view is the idea of emmanence, which states that God is manifested in the material world. Personally I believe the philosophical concept of immanence is more correct, but I still think this religious idea falls short of helping us [Read more…] about Could God Really be Outside of his Creation?
The Truth about Truth
What is truth? This is the famous question that Pontius Pilate, the fifth Prefect of the Roman province of Judea, asked Jesus before his crucifixion. The fact that Jesus didn’t answer him used to bother me. Here was a great opportunity for Jesus to speak profound wisdom to a man who seemed, at times, to genuinely want it. Why didn’t Jesus tell him?
The desire for Jesus to unfold wisdom on the truth was ultimately mine [Read more…] about The Truth about Truth
Write for Spirit of the Scripture
I plan on this blog being around for a while, and I’ve decided to formally open up Spirit of the Scripture to guest posting. Because this blog now gets around 350 blog visits a day on average (and sometimes as high as 500), I figure it’s a good time to offer others some writing opportunities. My time is limited because I have a full-time job, family, and other small projects. I often get asked to write on specific subjects, and while I eventually get to them, I know there are other people out there who already have esoteric knowledge on these subjects and might wish to share [Read more…] about Write for Spirit of the Scripture
A Better World
I was touched recently. Deeply. It started off like a routine Saturday morning. I slept in a bit while my wife cooked breakfast for us and the kids (thanks Jess for always offering to do this!). As she finished setting the table, I came in, said good morning to her and the little ones, ate, and then went on my screened deck to read a short book I recently received in the mail. The book is entitled, A World We Can Live In, by Lynne Williamson. Lynne is a regular reader of this blog, and I was excited to see the contents of her work.
Fall seemed to be in full swing. [Read more…] about A Better World
Joseph Atwill Claims Solid Evidence that Jesus was Fabricated by Roman Aristocrats
Last night a friend sent me a link to an article entitled, Self-Professed ‘Bible Scholar’ Makes Explosive Allegation About Jesus That He Believes Could Rock the Christian Faith to Its Core. The article appeared on Yahoo News.
Mr. Atwill, the self-professed scholar in question, believes that Roman aristocrats fabricated the story of Jesus to control the masses.
Every so often, another scholar makes similar claims. I can already tell you that they always amount to nothing. I do not say this because I am a fundamentalist Christian, nor [Read more…] about Joseph Atwill Claims Solid Evidence that Jesus was Fabricated by Roman Aristocrats
Author Interview with Daniel Friedmann: The Broken Gift
I am always looking for information to expand my reader’s knowledge base of esoteric studies and how it relates to the Bible. That’s one reason I was pleasantly surprised when I was asked to be a part of Daniel Friedmann’s virtual book tour for his newest book, The Broken Gift. In his first book, The Genesis Code, Daniel incorporates Kabbalistic teaching to determine the age of the earth and universe. This got my attention, because I was already aware that Kabbalistic teachings on the age of the earth and the universe are in somewhat agreement with science. The Broken Gift tackles a new subject, the origins of man. I decided to secure an author interview which you can read below. But first you’ll find an excerpt which explains the contents of the book from The YP Publishing: [Read more…] about Author Interview with Daniel Friedmann: The Broken Gift
Sirius Documentary Coming Soon!
I have become an affiliate for the new film documentary called Sirius being released April 22, 2013. Apparently there is quite a bit of excitement about this film as it is being mentioned on many influential websites and discussed on popular forums.
The subject of this documentary is proof of extraterrestrials and ET technology that would create the opportunity to transform our planet. I don’t really consider myself a conspiracy theorist, but I definitely believe there is life on other planets, and I also believe that that life may have advanced technology that could transform our planet. Judgment and Karma in the Bible
I was reading a blog post about karma this morning by Katinka Hesselink (linked here). I like Katinka’s simple explanation of this largely misunderstood concept. Check out what she has to say below:
Somehow the law of Karma has people in all sorts of mental knots sometimes, so I thought I’d start out with the basics:
- When you help someone today, they will be helped. You will get the blessings later.
- When you hurt someone today, they will hurt. You will get similar problems later. [Read more…] about Judgment and Karma in the Bible
