For well over a thousand years, mainstream Christianity has taught that the creation of Adam and Eve and their subsequent expulsion from the Garden of Eden is literal history. While I will say it is a fantastic picture of how man came to this earth, I will also say that this story was never meant to be literal. In fact, to teach it in this way greatly diminishes the spiritual truth the author originally intended. But when this story is understood correctly, it unlocks the key to helping us live a full, abundant life, which is the way life was intended to be!
Getting right to the point, the story of Adam and Eve is about the human mind. More specifically, it is about a mind that has become fractured and is therefore no longer whole. Before explaining this, I want you to make a mental note of something which will become relevant at the end of this discussion. Jesus was crucified at Golgotha, which means “place of the skull”. In an esoteric sense, this is about the mind, and the battle is between the ears! Liberation and salvation come when we crucify the ego (through the waking conscious) and heal the mind.
In the literal story, God placed Adam in the Garden. In the beginning, Adam was alone; Eve had not been separated from him. Adam was therefore whole. This is representative of the conscious and subconscious working in perfect unity and harmony, which is also reflected by the paradise (Garden of Eden) in which Adam dwelled. In this state of unity consciousness, Adam was ONE with God. As the story continues, we learn that God placed Adam in a deep sleep (the realm of forgetfulness and consciousness fracture) and Eve was created. In this new state of being, Adam represents the waking conscious of mankind and Eve represents the subconscious. When the conscious and subconscious are no longer in unity, the state of Paradise (inner joy and peace) can no longer be maintained because the ego will take control. Thus the fall! And of course the literal story presents us with this in the form of expulsion from the Garden. As the story goes, Eve is tempted by the serpent or Satan (ego), and because the ego took over the driver’s seat of man’s soul, Paradise lost becomes man’s reality. This is also spiritual death. And spiritual death = separation from God.
As we stated earlier, Adam represents man’s waking conscious and ego, and Eve represents the subconscious. Ordinary consciousness is represented by the male aspect (Adam) because consciousness has the power to impregnate the subconscious (Eve) to produce the physical reality we experience. The subconscious, or female aspect (Eve), is the power of birthing and creating on the physical plane. This is where the concept of “Mother Earth” comes from. It has nothing to do with a literal female deity in its original understanding. It is only an explanation of consciousness, just like the story of Adam and Eve. Remember, Eve is the “mother of all living”. In other words, our subconscious is the mother that births our reality. This is also why the Bible states that man will RULE over the woman after the expulsion from the Garden. This is not to be taken literally. As it now stands, your conscious self rules over the subconscious. In other words, your conscious thought (male aspect) impregnates the subconscious (female aspect) with the seed of your waking consciousness. If your conscious self dwells on negativity, your subconscious, which is the real birthing/creation powerhouse, will produce that effect for you. And negativity becomes your reality! Remember, the battle is between the ears! It’s all about the mind.
To be whole again, we need to be renew our minds in Christ consciousness, like the Apostle Paul tells us. This is the born again experience. As Paul states in Galatians, “…and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Gal. 2:20).
So how was this accomplished in Paul? Notice how he stated, “…it is no longer I who lives…” What is the I Paul is referring to? It was his waking conscious and ego.
The ego wants to stay alive. That’s its job. The ego fears its own dissolution. In fact, ALL fear is rooted in ego.
As stated many places elsewhere on this blog, meditation helps to dissolve the ego, and, over time, the conscious and the subconscious began to work in unity. This is what Christ consciousness is. Some call it the “super consciousness”. The name doesn’t matter. It’s the outcome that matters.
Now that we have discussed the true understanding of the Adam and Eve story, I feel it is important state that man was never meant to RULE over or to dominate a woman. That’s just pure ego! But when the story of Adam and Eve is taken literally, people are taught that this is God’s will. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We must be careful to interpret the Bible correctly or the world becomes dysfunctional. To interpret Bible stories such as Adam and Eve literally creates religion. This is what Jesus was trying to combat.
For those of you who may be struggling with my take on the whether or not the scriptures are literal, I completely understand. I was taught since I was a little boy that the Bible was the inerrant word of God. I used to read up on the latest creation science news to prove to others that man was created six thousand years ago and placed in a literal Garden of Eden. It was as if I had to PROVE the Bible because deep down inside I knew there was something missing from the big picture, and if I could prove the Bible was inerrant to my own self, I could cover up the missing component. So proving the Bible to be the inerrant word of God was sort of my mission. But through that mission I realized that is was nothing more than a big ego trip, and I was only fooling myself. Now I don’t have to struggle with questions like where Cain got his wife in the land of Nod unless it was his sister—yuck! That’s not what the scripture is about. The scripture is about spirit, not history. If we all realized this, wars would stop. People could live in peace. I also truly believe people would then be able to see the unity that truly runs like a current beneath all the major world religions.
For further reading of why Paul tells wives to submit to husbands, and how this is also related to the conscious and subconscious and not literal, read HERE.
I hope this article has helped you see the true spirit of the scripture where Adam and Eve are concerned. If so, and you think this could help someone else, spread the love with social media!

Okay – I’m hooked. This work (to interpret the Bible through Love instead of fear and ego) is so needed in our world today. Unfortunately most of us don’t know the bible well enough to do this work (and, not to “hook” thy ego, but requires more courage than most of us have). So now you know why it was necessary for you to have the “religious” experience 🙂 I have never made the conscious/subconscious connection with Adam and Eve, but it makes perfect sense. What I took from it was God created Adam and gave him everything and he was in paradise. God decided Adam needed a partner, and created Eve (from him). God had only one rule – do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (judgement). Eve listened to “the serpent” (ego) who said God would deny them and they ate from the tree. Adam and Eve now judged what was good and what was evil and bad and in thinking apart from God, created the separation. I only mention this because I feel it’s important to really understand what “original thought” took place to create the ego and the separation. Eve wanted wisdom, but got judgement instead. (Before they were naked and happy, now they were ashamed of their nakedness). So Author … did God truly banish them and hand out all those “punishments”? Another interesting point is that Adam very quickly threw Eve (a part of him) under the bus and blamed her for his “mistake.” The devil made him do it. 🙂 God also said (paraphrased) now that you know the difference between good and evil (like us), you cannot eat from the Tree of Life (and live forever). What does that mean? Any thoughts on the figurative meaning of the flaming sword that God put up to bar mankind from the Tree of Life? Two trees from which to choose? Keep writing and I’ll keep reading!

Your comment on the necessity of having a religious experience is so true. And your insight on the Adam and Eve story adds to this post. You pose some great questions which I will address on this blog in the near future, because they are so important for everyone on the spiritual path to understand.
You asked if God really banished Adam and Eve from the Garden and then handed out punishments. I think we can both agree that this was an automatic expulsion (allegorically)based on the condition of man’s present state and disconnect from God.
Thanks again for taking the time to think about this so deeply.

If you can permit me I would like to reply to your post .
This story is indeed a myth but profoundly true to me. God created only one tree to put both good and evil. It is not that Adam and Eve ate the fruit from a tree full of evil or bad or with full of Sins ! That would have been easier to tell man really became sinful. He also tasted good part and clearly as God mentioned he became one of God! All knowing God must have known when he created all these. Let us not blame it on free will. What is the point of free will any way ? This whole thing is a fantastic drama. Only in freedom we will know the good and the bad and only in that knowledge we can love another. I do not think Adam and Eve knew about love when they were in paradise. God made sure they would not return by putting cherubs and flaming swords at the gate and make them aware of freedom and to learn love . Love does not exist without freedom. In Exodus God says I am The Lord your God (the conscious and subconscious as explained by Joshua Tilgham ) brought you out of slavery and bondage. It is clear the message in the Bible is Love and that needs to be realized only in full freedom which is the product of Christ consciousness.

Thank you for your discourse. It is refreshing. There is a great spiritual awakening taking place around the globe. My particular Church taught never to question the bible which was the infallible word of God but I was yet confronted with many inquiries that my pastor and other church leaders could not answer. After I heeded the pastoral call my eldest son confronted me with questions I could not answer. He embarked on a course of study. I soon began my exploration to know, also. There is a scripture that says, “There is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). One day I accidentally happened upon a website that made a comparison of Ancient Egyptian/Kemetic teaching and Christianity. It showed the children of Ham were the writers of the doctrine of allegories borrowed by the writers the bible. The teaching of the trinity, the commandments, the death, burial and resurrection and the White Throne judgement was in place prior to Christianity. I continue to study as I grow in knowledge and wisdom. Walking in love is an essential ingredient to the recipe of spiritual balance.

Great article … I’ve had questions which allign with some of what you’re writing. Just trying to find the right people to ask them of : http://pastebin.com/07mHhr6a
Joshua Tilghman says
Thanks, Mike. I had the same questions as you many years ago when I started my spiritual journey, oftentimes staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning (and then getting up at 6 for work) because I had to have some answers. If you are diligent, answers will come. So will more questions. But the journey is what life is about. As you probably already know, the important thing is that you educate yourself enough to rule out false religious concepts that make life burdensome instead of a joy. Understanding the intention of the original Biblical authors is one of the keys that unlocks so many of life’s hard questions. These authors were mystics which knew that your state of consciousness is more important than outside influences. In fact, your state of consciousness is the center of your world that has the power to affect your surroundings.

Do you ever dream what it was like before “The Fall”? All the animals were friends and didn’t eat each other and man lived in peace. If it wasn’t for Eve and her weak mind, we would all still be living in the Garden of Eden!

You’re joking right Eric? You’re not suggesting that men cannot think for themselves or incapable of resisting temptation? Yikes!

I too have come to a similar conclusion regarding Adam and Eve being aspects of the mind. I think one has to go further though. The scripture is written on multi-levels, and we’re now talking about a high level of understanding. One must also be aware, that this is written with great intelligence and understanding. Things aren’t there ‘just cos’, or to flesh out the story, they all have significance.
So you should go into more depth in your posts. The story of creation has so many more details in it. One questioner talks about the Tree of Life, I think literally it is the Tree of Lives, which may put a new slant on what you thought it was.
What do I mean by more in depth? Well…What is God in this story? Do you automatically assume what this represents, or does it too represent a part of the mind. The word used for the serpent actually means whispering/hissing. Is this really ego? We have Cain and Abel, derived from Adam and Eve, Cain means acquire and Abel means breath literally, but what are they exactly? We have all of these clues of the original meanings, but it still takes great work to get the full picture of what is being said. Why does Cain kill Abel, what does this represent? Why do Adam and Eve cover themselves with fig leaves? Why fig? Don’t overlook these details. They are important.
Joshua Tilghman says
Jack,
Thanks for you comment and your insight. You bring up a lot of good points. The Bible is packed so full of information, and everything does have significance. It would take a great deal of time to cover it all, especially a book like Genesis, but I am going to address some of the points you bring up in future blog posts. Thanks again.

That’s good. You’re right it will take a great deal of time, but it is worthwhile, and this is a good blog. The aim is to eventually have a full understanding of all of these allegories

WE ARE IN POSITION TO RECEIVE THEREFORE TODAY WE CAN HAVE PARADISE ON THE INSIDE WHICH MANIFEST TO THE OUTSIDE IF WE LIKE ADAM IN THE BEGINNING WERE IN OUR PLACE PLEASE TELL ME DO YOU THINK THAT THE STORY OF ADAM AND EVE REPRESENTS ALSO THAT THERE IS A PLACE THAT WE ARE TO BE IN ORDER TO EXPERIENCE THE FULLNESS OF WHAT GOD INTENDED FOR US
Joshua Tilghman says
Natassia,
Thanks for your heartfelt comment. It’s good to have you hear. I think you have gotten it when you say, “WE ARE IN POSITION TO RECEIVE THEREFORE TODAY WE CAN HAVE PARADISE ON THE INSIDE WHICH MANIFEST TO THE OUTSIDE.”
Remember, events happen to us in the way that we interpret them. If we judge them badly, they are truly bad. This issue lies with us. We create paradise or we create hell.
About your question: Yes, I do. But that “place” is really a state of BEING, at least for me.
Thanks so much for your post.

hi joshua, you are exactly right it is a state of being, i just tried to make the comparison with the actual physical place back then in adam and eve’s time ( the garden of eden ) to now thanks to our lord and savior jesus christ having made access to this spiritual place of abundance,a place of right standing, where if we believe and we keep our heavenly father jehovah first in our lives we are in position then to connect, communicate and recieve hence the scripture: seek ye first the kingdom of christ and his righteousness all these things shall be added unto you, matt6:33

We must be grateful for our Intellect for it is what has brought us to this point of awakening to this Grand Truth and without it we would not have developed the Desire for Perfect LOVE to manifest.
It is the Desire of the Intellect married to the Knowing of the Intuition that produces the Cosmically Conscious Man! That Desire springs from all the experiences we have had that the Intellect has cataloged…finally bringing us to the point of Desire for more.
You truly cannot have one without the other! Together they become ONE in service, desire and JOY….creating ONE MIND…the MIND of CHRIST.
I love your blog and will be back many times.
Thank you Joshua for your contribution to the Grand Awakening!

I like how you pointed out that we must be grateful for our intellect. I have always said that even though the intellect cannot get us through the door of awakening, it can get us TO that door. The intellect is one of our greatest assets and we must use it to weed out that which isn’t true.
You stated: “It is the Desire of the Intellect married to the Knowing of the Intuition that produces the Cosmically Conscious Man!”

Listen to this. The Tree of Knowledge is made up of the brain, brain stem and spinal cord. The “fruit” of the tree in which the subconscious bites from, is the pineal gland. The “serpent” is the kundalini energy/spinal fluid which travels up the spine (tree trunk) to the brain and splashes on the pineal gland, causing it to release large amounts of DMT (allows you to dream/same effect from psychedelics/increases consciousness). Eve’s subconscious was given new knowledge and insight about good and evil due to the psychedelic effect of the meditation or the shrooms or other hallucinogenic plant she might have eaten.

Lots of new information forever ascension of knowledge. Not long ago I read some info relating to the trees in the garden, there was more then one. It also mentioned other trees thorughout the bible, figs, dates e.t.c. about 7 relating to the 7 points of chakra in the body, also could be why in the old testament it says all that we will need to feed from would be found in the trees. Once one understands the symbolism it will lead them to the journey of ascension of their spirit, the masses is looking for something they can see, feel, touch. Something of interest from a man who was spiritual and left the spiritual world for science and his research brought him back to the spiritual world again, blow your mind with Bruce Lipton; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEuGlndt1yc

Joshua,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this…I’m still of the mindset that something could have happened literally as well. Like when God gave them “skins” that they moved from an etheric state to a more physical body possibly– and they were separated. Through meditation and lots of different experiences on this “mystic” path I now find myself on– I’ve been wondering lots about the male/female aspect -and the passive/active (receiving/giving) aspect of ourselves — but this conscious/subconscious aspect is so important…. I’m trying to understand “imagination” or how the thoughts can be formed and then birthed out into “real life” here… There’s so much I want to understand and also write about but sometimes it’s difficult to put in words and also we have to limit our scope sometimes for blogs! I’m so glad to have come across your blog! Thanks for commenting on mine–so that I could find this! Blessings!

Hi Joshua,
I was skipping your blog in order to find this post again because for some reason I started thinking anew about the serpent.
Apart from it being nachasj in Hebrew – which in numerical value (358) equals masjiach, messiah – there was also the fact that as nachasj it corresponds with number six (at the end of the sixth day it entices man to enter the world of the seventh day, the material world of ego and duality) and as messiah it corresponds with the number eight because masjiach means anointed (with oil, shemen = shmona, eight) and the eighth day is the beginning of the state of higher consciousness.
As such the serpent was the driving force during the whole process, which during the deeper part of the curve of course involved the increasing/declining influence and power of the ego.
As the kundalini is also portrayed as a serpent, however, and rises along the spine (which could be seen as the trunk of a tree) towards the glands in the brain, I started wondering if that serpent in the tree of the knowledge of good and evil could not be that kundalini, resting in the brain before the start of this whole involution and evolution.
In one of the comments above Jack says that nachaj means hissing, but when I checked my dictionary I found that the verb nichesj, which is written exactly the same way as nachasj, means to guess and to presume. In connection to the mind this might mean that in that stage man did not really know anything yet because (s)he had not been exposed to duality and polarity yet and as such was just guessing and presuming things but wanted to know, which put the whole process in motion.
At the end of the process, after all the fruits of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil have been eaten/digested and man has achieved da’at, knowledge, and unconditional love, it becomes clear that the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil are not two different trees, but two faces/phases of the same tree, which then proves to be the spine and brain in the body of man.
Last but not least there was the fact that at one place in the bible – where Moses, in front of the pharaoh, throws his staff on the ground which turns it into a serpent and then grabs it by the tale after which turns into a staff again (after having devoured the serpents that the Egyptian priests turned their staffs into) – this serpent is given another name, tanin, which actually means crocodile, but never is translated as such.
What does that mean and what place does it have within the context of all of this, if any? Any ideas?

I am new to your blog but I find it quite fascinating. Back in May, I reached a point in my life that forced me to look “outside” of myself for truth about this life and what it all means. As I have found myself diving into the meaning of being a Christian I have come across many helpful sites, most only touching on the surface of the meanings of the Good Book. I enjoyed reading what you wrote above and find that, upon mediating and asking God to revel truth unto me, it makes a great deal of sense. I would like to share a revelation that came upon me, and has relentless stuck with me, for several weeks now.
While watching a show on the future of computers the topic of Singularity was brought up (Singularity being the point at which technology reach a state where man is no longer needed in the evolution of technology) when it hit me. It was not the eating of the fruit of Knowledge that expelled man from the Garden(as you stated above the Garden simply being a state of being), but the deliberate disobedience to God’s Word (the Word being God himself) and the acquisition of that which was not yet appointed to Man. With this thought in mind, Singularity (mentioned above) would grant man (should he survive sentient technology) would then be able to live forever with the aide of God (download your Mind into a hard drive and never die). This would be the same thing as Adam eating from the Tree of Knowledge and Life. Which in reading Genesis we know was one of the primary reasons he would have been removed from the Garden.
I would love to hear your opinion on the matter. As was stated above every verse has meaning, none is filler.
Joshua Tilghman says
Justin,
I somehow missed this comment before, so I am sorry about the late reply. What you have stated is indeed interesting. I have often thought about what would happen if AI were suddenly a reality…would it have a soul? For me getting back to Eden is a state of higher consciousness, and experience through the physical, mental, and astral bodies are an important part of that process. Not sure how we could evolve in the state you mention above. Perhaps it would be possible though. Quantum computers are certainly going to change everything for us in the near future though. To what extent remains to be seen.
Blessings!

Dear Joshua,
Your approach to, and understanding of, the scriptures is to be most wholeheartedly commended. After many years (I am approaching my 70th year) studying the esoteric foundations of the world’s holy writings I have absolutely no doubt that the most significant, important, and mind-opening work I have ever encountered is the book THINKING AND DESTINY by Harold Waldwin Percival. As it may be difficult to find, it may be ordered from the website of its publisher The Word Foundation. Please do not think that “The Word” in that Foundation’s name indicates anything scriptural. Rather, it is one individual’s understanding of the emergence, and esoteric components of, reality as we think we know it.
With my fondest appreciation of your work and your thinking,

Roberta,
This is not a private interpretation. It’s taken years of esoteric study to unveil. There are many resources out there, especially the ones from antiquity, which support it.
I do understand where you are coming from because I was once there. But if you really think about, what is the literal interpretation? It is the private interpretation of the church. The scriptures always go beyond the literal. The Jewish people and early church fathers teach us this.

Hi!
Fascinating reading! I’m taking the time to go back and re-read everything twice. As I read this article/post for the second time. I have two comments.
One: Golgotha and its meaning; it was also a hill in Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. Skull also means representation of death and mortality. Which is more inclined with Jesus death then between the ears.
Two: You spoke on meditation being a means of renewing the mind and overcoming the ego. That could be a means- however the mind is renewed by the word of God the parts that teach us how to love one another, etc. as we read it the Spirit renews us inwardly.
But ill continue to read and comment. Peace.

Consider another view point of Adam & Eve besides conscious vs. sub-conscious; she was to be a ‘help meet’ for Adam. To make Adam complete, God wanted for Adam to meet his other half. A wonderful marriage counselor, G. Smedley? interviewed over 20k couples; his conclusion states that 80% of males are left brain; logical, analytical & 20% are right brain. Eve/women, 80% are right brain; loving, caring, nurturing, intuition & 20% are left brain. Right brain is mechanical & Left brain is more artistic, which I like to define as love/mercy vs. justice or judgment, which reflects the twin pillars of God’s kingdom, which is reflected in the tabernacle; HP (holy place = love (crucifixion or altar of sacrifice & HP where he presented His blood (Heb. 9:12) & MHP (most holy place = justice (the law, tablets are located). Why we are created in the image of God, His likeness (Gen. 1:26,27).
Well, in this grand scheme of marriage, the twain come to be one; Adam brings in the justice/mechanical side & Even is to bring the love/mercy or artistic side. Yes, sin + heredity has marred this original or ideal intent. Our goal is to to have a good balance of both sides, work on the other side. Some accomplish this through their lifetime more or inherit. Was marriage to be temporary till we develop self & help meet ourselves. Does it not state; “For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.”?
Not claiming it as a fact but thoughts to contemplate, remember, truth or light is ever evolving.
Tony says
Yes the Ego is the beast. Genesis 4 talks about sin crouching at the door. The man of sin =the Ego.
Is there original sin?
Sandra L. Butler says
Here’s the understanding that came to me on Adam and Eve, which with a few exceptions, is pretty darn close to Joshua’s.
Eve (symbolizing The Mind/conscience) took in the lie, symbolized by the serpent. She then goes and sells it to Adam (symbolizing The Heart/subconscious), the erroneous thought of the mind has now become a false belief of the heart through the power of emotion, which they then acted upon, losing their protection (symbolized by the garden). The broad view.
The detailed view:
We are all spiritually male and female…”male and female created he them.” We are male in that we have the ability to sow spiritual seed (truth or lies) through spiritual energy (love or fear). We are female in that we serve as a protective habitat for this seed and energy, be it good or evil; positive or negative. Our male aspect is our inner being of spirit and word, which is the essence of our father. Our female aspect is the receptacle for this spirit and word, which is our mother. Through a spiritual intercourse our spiritual father sows spiritual seed through spiritual energy, into our spiritual mother. The physical mother, which conceives of physical seed, is the female flesh body, but our spiritual mother is the heart— “ the fleshy tables of the heart.”
Jerusalem (” the mother of us all”) is three-fold: mind, heart, body. A thought is called a seed, but it is not really a seed until it is sown, the word “seed” meaning “something sown.” Maybe you have seen a spore (seed with hair-like projections) being carried through heaven (that region above the earth, symbolizing the mind), which does not have the power to bring forth (manifest) until it intercourses with the earth (symbolizing the heart). The earth-heart anagram is no coincidence.
So when we take a wrong thought into our mind (as Eve did) and give energy to it, it becomes energized. But it is only through the power of emotion that it will be seeded in our heart (as Adam accepted the lie as truth), which in the process of time manifests into our life when we act upon it, wreaking havoc in our life, removing us from our voluptuous life, the word “Eden” meaning to “live voluptuously.” It is going to take some deep inner work to return to that elevated state of being called the garden.
James Rowe says
Wow Joshua you cannot imagine how glad I am that I read this. I, too, was raised to believe the bible was history. It never made sense to me. Religious people nowadays are always like “turn to Jesus” but I always felt like they didn’t get the whole picture. Like, you say and do these certain things and go to church and talk to these holy people and that’s going to make the world a better place? I knew there had to be spiritual meaning, but i thought all the Catholics I knew were misinterpreting it. They focus on God like he sits on some high throne in heaven making sure everyone is good, but I always saw God as an all encompassing energetic spirit. My mind is opening, I am starting to learn, but I still feel fractured. My energy and sense of purpose are low. I feel like I need to get away from people and this stupid materialistic society for a long time and just meditate. Be a monk for a while. But my conscious mind says that it’s a ridiculous idea. Have you found any insight from the Bible on how to achieve the garden state of inner peace or is it folly? It seems like everyone is struggling with themselves nowadays.
Joshua Tilghman says
James,
Thank you for taking the time to comment. What you are feeling is valid. We are often taught just to believe and endure doing the low times and things will eventually get better. While this may be true for some (because we all have periods of lows and highs), the human spirit often needs to delve into deeper into the reason for existence. I certainly don’t mean to bash the church, but there is so much more to scripture than what we have been taught.
I definitely recommend a daily meditate session. It’s not a ridiculous idea, and you don’t have to think of yourself as a monk to do this. I have written many articles on this site where the Bible promotes meditation (yes, the eastern kind) in order to help you mature spiritually. Feel free to type in meditation on the search bar and I’m sure you see some articles which will explain this process more for you. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail through the contact page if you have any questions.
Many blessings!

I always tell people to stop taking the Bible so literally. It is commonly acknowledged that in the Bible , Jesus spoke in parables…so why would everything else have to be literal?

Cherie Erten says
Well, I am almost speechless but you want think so by the time I get this typed out. I was raised a Southern Baptist, daughter of a Deacon, which means I was taught that the Bible is the literal word of God. From an early age I had problems and questions no one could answer. That old answer of you just have to have FAITH. Well, that dog just didn’t hunt with me.
I still have a problem with this so called “God”. I left dogma along time ago and struck out on my own quest for answers, that lead me down the path of a little bit of everything in my search. The Esoteric/Occult field was my haven. I finally settled in what I called the “OLD WAYS” most would call that Witchcraft, but I object because so many equate that with the Devil which I do not believe in as an entity, it is in the mind. My god was the Universe and if I needed a figure head it was the Goddess I called upon, the Goddess of the World. This has worked well for me. My magical life flourished and my Tarot reading has too. A lot that practice this include Saints etc, but I couldn’t go down this road, to close to Dogma for me and it made the hair stand up on my body.
I am always reading and recently came across the book ” Living Gnosis” by Tau Malachi of the Sophian Tradition and thought I would give it a whirl. Well, needless to say it provoked a lot of thought. Things that I always felt but couldn’t explain. Somwhere at sometime and I do wish I could remember who said it, ” Jesus said, ” Look within yourself.” that saying was supposed to be the one thing the Catholic Church feared the most. I never forgot that saying.
My problem is still with “GOD”, now maybe if the Bible is not to be taken in a literal sense perhaps some of these ghost that have haunted me can be sent through the door to the light:
1. Why was there a Tree in the Garden of Eden to begin with, much less a serpent. God knows all he had to know what was going to happen when he put it there.
2. What was the deal with Abraham and Issac and the sacrifice, Oh, I didn’t really want you to kill him it was just a big joke, excuse me.
3. What kind of God likes the smell of burning flesh for a sacrifice? That’s all HE accepts.
4. Talk about Genocide? How many countless people did “God” wipe out? The flood a whole earth, lets not forget he created them as well or he just picks and chooses?
5. Lets not forget the forming of TWO great nations and 2000 years of War and destruction and countless lives lost. When Sarah sent her handmaiden into the desert and “God” told her I will make a great nation of Ismail which became the Muslin Nation. Well, “God” had to know where that was going after all HE is all knowing right?
Now, if this stories are not literal like I said maybe I can send some of these Ghost into the Light but if not. What kind of “GOD” would do this not to mention all the other types of atrocities that have been inflicted upon mankind by a God that supposedly loves us. I am very intrigued by your articles and I admit I have read 3 but I will continue to read more but for me this “God” thing well, need I say more. Open for any WISDOM anyone has. Sorry for the length.

Cherie,
Thanks for your detailed comment. I understand your reason to question. I think most of us on this blog went through the same process. We may have taken different paths, but questioning what we have been taught is the beginning of a great process that will help unveil the hidden mysteries of God and the Bible. As to your questions, these articles should help answer them:

Cherie,
What might help is to understand that we were made in the image of God, which is a spiritual image, but within time we formed an image that was contrary to that image, which was the result of Eve buying into what the serpent said and then selling it to Adam (they ate of it, accepting the lie into their heart).
The whole Bible takes place within us, all of its events symbolizing spiritual events that have taken place within us throughout our life.
When we fell from this pure spiritual (mental and emotional) existence by eating of a metaphorical tree of knowledge of good and evil we brought pain and aggravation into our life, symbolized by the “thorns” and “thistles” (Genesis 3:18).
I am not surprised you were drawn to the goddess concept, an understandable backlash against the patriarchal system found in religion, and it sounds like you had your fill of it. But at least you gained biblical knowledge, which you (having processed through 4 days of spiritual works) can now easily transfigure into the spiritual. You are doing what I have seen so many do over the past 14 years, which is to gravitate to the East, which is associated with the Spirit, the precursor to gaining a spiritual understanding of the Word; of the Scriptures.
The sacrifice of Isaac was not only prophetic, revealing what would take place 2000 years later, when the Son was offered for sacrifice, it reveals what has taken place within us. We have sacrificed the son, symbolizing truth when what we should have sacrificed was the ram, symbolizing idolatry (the worshipping of images) by sacrificing the false beliefs we accepted throughout our life.
The two great nations exist within us. Ishmael = bondage/addiction. Isaac= freedom (physical and spiritual freedom). This battle will continue until we complete the healing process.
” From whence (from where) come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? ” James 4:1. The “members” are our own mind and heart, which (like Israel and Judah) are to be reconciled.
Thanks for sharing your story, Cherie.

Adam ate the fruit of his actions. He no longer saw God as the source all things, but instead Adam’s ego begin to dominate and took ownership of all things. And in my house I’m the only child who thinks this way and interprets the bible like this so I can’t speak the true word because they may get offended. Well my father is a little more opened and said he understands when we sat down. He also has cancer and told me he’s trying to use this new method of thinking but the church keeps giving him these different views and I told him to stop going and meditate but he’s 67 now and he’s in very bad shape. My mom just prayed for him while we rested our hand on his head. I wanted to say something but I knew she would get angry! Please help me, my church seems to pray as if something is coming from the outside, they preach the story in such a literal sense that the children there will grasp it incorrectly like I did when I was younger.

Jonathan,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. First of all I am sorry about your father and household situation. I understand because although I am no longer in the house with the adults who raised me, they are hurt and judgmental about the path I have taken and the beliefs I have about the Bible. Of course I love them just the same, but it can be annoying to see someone say something or believe something which you KNOW is not correct. But hang in there. Everyone has to find their own way in their own time. We must remember it is not our job to correct them. It is only our job to be non-judgmental and be there to answer questions when asked. I had to learn this the hard way. When a person is ready to leave religion, they usually have to go through an internal war. When they are truly able to accept that their questions are valid and are not satisfied by the answers of their religious leaders, they have made great progress.
And you are absolutely right. The Bible stories and myths are about the the mind and body. The world will be a much better place when this is universally understood.

Thank you all so much! 1 was beginning to think I was the only one that the Holy Spirit had revealed this to! I found this so exciting and thought that everyone else would be excited also ! NOT SO! But you know what? I am a jail chaplain, and those poor women are so hungry to find away out of the hell that they live in already, that they are grabbing hold of this and seeing their lives change! I just lay low and don’t try to persuade anyone that they are wrong and I am right! I just encourage them to build their own relationship with JESUS, and show me where I might be wrong, they just need to explain it to me in a way that no eye has seen , no ear has heard and no mind can conceive or else it is not of God. He tells us that True worshippers MUST worship in spirit and in truth! I am a true worshipper of God and I will not argue! Thank you again!

I love this blog. Its hard for me to find like minded people on this subject. My girlfriend doesn’t believe and my parents who are “Born Again Christians” would never interpret the bible in this manner. If I told them the story was fiction I would probably get kicked out.
My mission is to better my life and use the true meaning of the bible to describe my success in the near future. Keeping a cleansed and positive mind I think this is the best way to get the message across to them.
Looking at the Bible in this light really brings peace within me. I wish I was still in school so I could stand up and say something to my teacher in my religions class. These are simply forms of separation and hate rather than a united love. My parents don’t like muslims, I seen a creationist arguing with someone who studies evolution. There are wars all over but we should all be in harmony. The conscious and subconscious is broken down in a scripture that reads like a screen-play to the naked eye.
The bible connects with science which is amazing. Now there are no discussions, no arguments, no confusion. We should really spread this around!
I’ve been reading personal development books for about 3 years now and never once did I consider the bible. I was brought here not by my parents but by these guys.
Napoleon Hill, Neville Goddard and Joseph Murphy. Great philosophers known for breaking down the treasure between your ears. They quote the bible many times. Neville Goddard only focuses on the bible. He describes every character in the bible as a state of consciousness, as you can see the bible has every characteristic within its cast. These are all states we can enter.
I’ve also realized that some celebrities understand this concept but continue to get slandered.
KANYE WEST is a great example.
He calls himself a God. But he’s correct, God is the Great I AM. We have the same power within
He calls himself Yeezus a play of the word Jesus which is also okay to do. Jesus is a state we should all be thriving to enter. The Super conscious where we are delivering to earth as it is in heaven (a beautiful mind)
I want to know how I should share this with my peers without offending them.
Thank you for your time. Please leave your comments

Hi Jonathan.
There is a tendency in man to go from one extreme to another, when the truth is found somewhere in the middle. You might find this article I wrote on interest: http://mysticalteachingsofthebible.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/old-age-new-age-beliefs/
I whole-heartedly agree with Joshua… “’Don’t be anxious. Wait until you know they are ready to receive the information.”
You wrote: “My mission is to better my life.” I had the same desire, and I can tell you that that desire will make you mission a reality. I actually don’t agree that the story is fiction. I believe the literal is there to teach us the spiritual, and to me that is the omnipotent power of God. I myself have to question why they now want to remove the physical aspect, what’s their motivation?
I can tell you that the true meaning of the Bible is to teach us what has, is, or should be taking place within us. The Bible takes place within. It begins with the creation of heaven and earth and ends with the creation of ” a new heaven and a new earth,” symbolizing “a new mind and a new heart” ©.
Yes, the conscious and sub-conscious are broken down in scripture, symbolized by Israel and Judah, symbolizing The Mind and The Heart.
Yes, spirituality and science are finally connecting, but let us not go too far into science this time around.
The Bible is all about our psychology… about what has taken place within us spiritual (mentally and emotionally). going beyond states of consciousness and into states of sub consciousness, beyond the mind and into the heart; beyond the kingdom of heaven and into the kingdom of God. It’s not about us becoming God. It’s about us becoming gods. God had the power to create and form a physical heaven and earth. We have the power to create and form a spiritual heaven and earth through Jesus (the physical manifestation of the word/seed of God, which is truth). And yes, I couldn’t agree more. We should be striving to enter a “Jesus” state” by resurrecting truth from within our own HEART, as Jesus was resurrected in the EARTH (the anagram is no coincidence).
You might not find many places to share what you are seeing right now, but I believe that will soon be changing, I myself have waited many years for this day.
Caroline says
I agree with Sandra L. Butler; the Bible is a spiritually discerned book – with a literal meaning, otherwise at what point do you separate the truth from fiction? Either it is fully true – in every sense or it is false. Jesus related His experiences to the characters of the Old Testament and His genealogy goes back to Adam. It is a multi, multi layered book with multiple facets like the most precious gem stone but its greatest strength is that it was built on the lives of real people, which should be our greatest encouragement.

Jonathan,
As stated above, please be careful when sharing this information with your peers. Don’t be anxious. Wait until you know they are ready to receive the information.
We can’t blame those who aren’t because the ego is the master of deception. It masks the truth very well, and we can’t disarm it for someone else. We can only be there when they are ready to realize it is their ego which has hindered them from truth.

THANKS for your advice Joshua.
Knowing is enough for me. If im asked I will express my beliefs but I will not force them upon anyone. Once I’m complete as the man I see myself to be within, they will see then.
Proving with action must be the best way correct?
Sandra L. Butler says
Jonathan,
They will not see as long as they serve the religious image. Bring to the table that which you have been given. Those that have the ability to eat of it will eat of it… like energies will attract. Yes, action, as faith without works, is dead, having no power. As Jesus said. “believe the works,” the word “believe” meaning “to put action to.”

I can’t thank you enough for your website. I have always felt that something just wasn’t clicking with traditional Christian practices. My mind prevented me from accepting these traditional teachings as factual, literal events.
I have read books such as the “Power of Now” that talks about the destructive force of the “ego” and felt a great burden fall from my shoulders as I read some of your posts. It is so beautiful how these biblical stores/events are so intertwined with the human body.
I also wanted to state that upon reading your site I opened up my Bible randomly and was brought to Colossians 1 26-29 which states.
” This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now its out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of there background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this. Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less…”
For some reason this piece of scripture resonates so well with me. Is it coincidence that I happen to open to this passage at this exact time? Who knows. But I do feel a sense of piece and purpose that I have never felt before.

Taylor,
I really do appreciate the comments and encouragement. I wish you the best as you continue to read, learn and grow. When the excitement wears off after accruing much esoteric head knowledge, remember to go with the heart and practice, meditate, and spend alone time with God. Blessings, my friend!
Sandra L. Butler says
Hi Taylor,
I would say that it is no coincidence you turned to Colossians 1:26-26, which actually ties in with Joshua’s response to you. The mystery pertains to the kingdom of God, symbolizing the realm of The Heart© (Mark 4:11). Beyond our understanding that this is a power that dwells within our heart is activating it from within our heart, which begins with silence in heaven, heaven symbolizing the mind©; quiet in the mind.
Godspeed.

When I began to research other cultural beliefs and learned of yoga and it’s connection to clearing chakras and the opening of the third eye, I felt the story of Adam and Eve acted as a warning. Hear me out- there are tons of people not actually looking for a spiritual journey that includes a relationship with God. They have heard of this third eye and the “benefits” having it open would bring them. I have read books that clearly point out the importance of going along a slow steady path to enlightenment. One author stated that a few people she knew that forced this open without the spiritual growth necessary ended up in mental institutions.
Which brings me to the serpent in the garden, which symbolizes WISDOM in ancient Egypt. The head-dresses they wore had these serpents on them which centered right where the third eye is located. In this story the serpent is telling Eve that she will see like God, and it is believed the third eye is where this seeing takes place. The tree of life (yoga pose). Could the story of Adam and Eve represent living in the ignorant bliss of God’s love and protection without the manifested reminders of the active spirit world around us? When you see into the spiritual realm- you don’t just see angels and beautiful celestial creatures. You see the good, bad and the ugly. It’s the nature of the ego to desire this gift and see it as a “power. Man’s sin is the desire for more than God has blessed us with at present. I think that these stories in the Bible give us a multitude of information and that your interpretation of them will depend on the condition of your heart when you read them.
Joshua Tilghman says
Moneka,
Good points. We are all on our own journey to different levels of consciousness, and we must not try to force it, especially before clearing out the junk that needs to be cleared out. I always recommend going slowly, with a lot of mediation and self-reflection. There are no quick-fixes. If someone has an awakening suddenly, it’s only because they have been through the experiences through many lifetimes to get them ready.
Sandra L. Butler says
Well said, Moneka.
Moneka: “Man’s sin is the desire for more than God has blessed us with at present.”
Sandra: “I refer to it as “spiritual greed,” a lust for spiritual power, a clear indication of ones lack of authentic power.”
Moneka: “I think that these stories in the Bible give us a multitude of information and that your interpretation of them will depend on the condition of your heart when you read them.”
Sandra: “Absolutely, the whole Bible taking place within, the physical events revealing the spiritual (mental and emotional) events that have taken place within so that we may come to understand ourselves. The stories provide the information we need to experience a complete transformation. The Bible begins with the creation of heaven and earth and ends with the creation of “a new heaven and a new earth,” symbolizing “a new mind and a new heart.”
Tammy says
I’ve understood this for quite awhile, but saw Adam/man/husband as “spirit”, and Eve/woman/wife as “soul”. Same understanding, just different words. Paul said a woman is not to teach, or speak in church, or have authority over man, but it really meant that one was not supposed to preach/teach from the soul (ego), but rather teach from the spirit, which constantly seeks after God and His goodness from which it came. Thank you so much for posting this article! 🙂
Sandra L Butler says
Hi Tammy,
Paul would say that because Paul was about the Law. Jesus, on the other hand, was about the spirit of the law, making no distinction between men and woman. Paul came to this same realization, saying that there was no distinction between male and female, that they were all one in Christ. Taking it further, the woman represents flesh and the male represents the inner-being. The inner-being (spirit of love and word of truth) is to rule over what constitutes flesh, an invisible type of flesh formed by the false beliefs we have accepted into our heart throughout our life, which can only be removed through a spiritual circumcision. I agree that the soul (the vital principle in man credited to the faculty of thought, emotion, and action) is female. Mind, Heart, and Body (the body formed by the woman). I see the ego as an inferior energy that rules the mind, being in opposition to the superior energy/spirit that should be ruling he mind, and the heart.
jana says
Hi there.
Another perspective in lieu of “crucifying the ego” is that so long as one is ego-based in their existence, that then is the crucifixion in and of itself. Ancient (and modern) mystics refer to this plight of duality-based ego/mentalism as “stuck on the cross.” You think you’re alone during this time, suffering (hence, “Why hast thou forsaken me?”) The resurrection occurs when one suffers enough–til they’re like a dead man–and goes into the tomb (within your own brain … could be the fornix at center of brain, which means “tomb or vault” in latin … the entry into which is actually shaped like a vagina, no less) to emerge reborn as the Christ self; the perfection of man’s design. Many of the initiates emerging from the ancient mystery schools were said to be born of virgin mothers. I personally don’t feel that I want to destroy the ego, but rather find balance. Clearly it has validity, but it gets into trouble when it knows not of how much support it actually has! (a convenient omission from most mainstream spiritual teachings) Ego (what I consider more of a focusing mechanism–good for reading, noting, asking) is not designed nor capable of doing all the things it’s attempting to do, hence the struggle and misery of many life stories. Instead of killing the ego, I feel it’s more about becoming whole and bringing the highest faculty of this human form back into the party. Let the ego rest and have some fun, knowing it’s well taken care of.
A thought. Have a great day!

There is no way we believe you have gotten this information from not reading it from other books or sources i.e. websites. Can you please answer the question how did you get all this information because for us we have been studying esoteric knowledge for a long time and this concept has been written by other authors and websites? So if you are true to youself and others you will answer this question so the public can know if you are taking credit for someone else’s work or you are giving credit to those who brought us this knowledge from the past.

Joshua Tilghman says
Lynn…
Yes, absolutely I have gotten much of my knowledge from websites, esoteric giants of the past, and even in science. You will notice on many other articles contained in this site that I state that. I have been reading esoteric materials for years, and in no way could I have developed this website without it. It was actually my discontent with the traditional Bible message that got me reading Joseph Campbell, and from there I tried to get my hands on anything I could find. This particular article is my own thought, but only after gathering esoteric knowledge to break the code that I believe exist about consciousness within the Bible. I did not go to one source for this article, but saw the picture only after others (and many years later) had provided the foundational knowledge. I could care less about making a name for myself. I built this website for those who are discontented with the traditional message like I was, and who then spent countless hours looking for an alternative that made sense.
There is also plenty of esoteric knowledge given by the early church fathers which mainstream Christianity believes spoke against it. One gets a feel for this once acquiring enough esoteric knowledge to see common patterns. Furthermore, I don’t consider the knowledge presented on this website even close to the wisdom and knowledge put forth by Rabbi’s who have studied Kabbalah their entire lives, and I am sure they could correct me on quite a few things, but I enjoy presenting the Bible the way I see it now based on history, science, Gnosticism, philosophy, and eastern mysticism. For me, the entire Bible is truly about the conscious experience and speaks that God is consciousness itself.
One particular source that has been immensely helpful, given to me by someone else who came to my site when I was first getting started, was the “Dictionary of Scripture and Myth.” Possibly you’ve heard of it.
I hope that helps.

I have just found your incredible website. THANK YOU. I am one ‘of those’ for whom the biblical account has never made sense. I have always felt that we are lost in translation.
Once you can stand outside and look at the big picture, it starts unfolding and what a fantastic journey this has become for me. As I am reading your stuff, my internal joy meter is jumping up and down and singing out “YES”!
I have been researching the same stuff as you for years, everything you say, resonates as truth.
I have been studying ancient symbolism for 28years in particular masonic symbolism and the philosophy behind the craft. To the extent that I am being invited into masonic lodges to talk on these matters. As a woman, this has been one extraordinary experience after the other. I am in the process of writing a book, no time limits, it is evolving as it should. Almost all your blogs confirm my deductions and reasoning. The symbol of the ancient cadueus is unfolding the ultimate symbol of spiritual alchemy.

I wrote my first blog yesterday, it was quite an experience. I had no idea what I was doing but there it is. Made quite a few mistakes – all part of our learning – http://www.masonicalchemist.wordpress.com.
This connection between the Conscious and Subconscious as the perfect Mind of God is beautifully explained according to the ancient Polynesian Belief Structure – The Huna Code (Max Freedom Long).
When you read the Nag Hammadi Library it is equally evident. Difficult read but well worth the effort. Please keep these confirmations going. Regards Louise

In Amos 7 it says that God has put a plumb line in the midst of His people Israel. The plumb line not only represents Jesus being the incarnate representation of God but also gives us a glimpse of the nature of God. A plumb line can only hang true to gravity. It is a force that cannot be denied, a fundamental truth that has always been true.
The plumb line shows that nothing about God can be false. The very nature of God is absolute truth and so any deviation from the truth keeps us from being in that truth. The proposition that apart from God we can do nothing means that outside of the absolute truth (which no man or woman can attain) we are bound to miss the standard and we know that when building a structure when we are out of plumb gravity puts forces on our structure which will ultimately cause it to list.
Jesus came to be the way to our restoration. He never sought out one thing for himself but laid his life down to absolute truth. We can not do so when we strive after the things of this world.
As to whether God exists as some have questioned, it is with certainty that we are all here, that there are laws of the universe which are immutable. It seems to be arrogant to believe that we who may have crawled from the primordial soup could have the ability to reason and perceive while God (the power and truth etc ) could not possibly have the power to do so. The assertion that there is some form of knowledge and consciousness that is above us seems so probable that having a viewpoint which denies that probability seems to be without merit.
I’m sorry but my original reason for responding was that I can not deny either the allegorical nature of the creation story but at the same time the historical accuracy of most of the Bible. Where it would have been so far beyond man, even at this point of our supreme enlightenment (please forgive my attempt at humorous sarcasm) , the truth or accuracy of the human condition was much easier to convey in the Adam and Eve than a scientific explanation which would have been and still would be beyond our ability to grasp and understand today.
When we fall short or outside of the absolute truth we like a building constructed outside of plumb will have necessary and inevitable consequences. It is not that God says “I am setting up these arbitrary rules just to please myself” but that He loves us and wants what is best for us. Deciding those things without understanding brings consequences that already set in place. Could you imagine if we had the power to reorder the universe. “Hey, I want that planet to be somewhere else….” the gravitational impact would destroy the universe. It isn’t so different for human behavior.
Well, enough of my opinions, thanks for the interesting and provocative posts. I find them very thought provoking and believe they will be helpful on my continued journey to know God.

According to what you now believe, then Jesus Christ was never born and died on the cross. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. In the old testament genealogy is very important, because God’s son, Jesus the carpenter’s son was going to be born. The genealogy of Jesus is in the first chapter of Matthew and in the gospel of Luke. That genealogy of Jesus is so very very important. Remember that fallen angels mated with the daughters of men and giants were born. Fallen angels and human women made hybrid beings on earth. There was good reason God had to destroy the earth in Noah’s day. The end times are as the days of Noah. Hybrid beings on earth. When you deny that Jesus Christ came in the flesh that is an anti-Christ spirit. The NT said to test and try the spirits. If the Bible is just spirit then the genealogy of Jesus would not have been so important. I do believe there are more than one meanings to scripture, because the NT says the Word of God is spirit. God is spirit and His word is spirit. You have been listening to some lying seducing spirits. The NT warns of that. Just don’t be deceived by the anti-Christ beast when he shows up on the scene as the messiah, the a/c shows up first. Satan deceives the whole world, if possible even the elect of God would be deceived. And they are now making robots like Data on Star Trek and in Revelation it talks about the image of the Beast. Jesus Christ did come in the flesh, He is son of God born of the virgin Mary and He did die for the sins of the whole world. Where you are at now you are open to be fooled by the end times. This is from Jennifer LeClaire: This revival of the devil’s witchcraft is unto an awakening to the occult that will set the very elect up to be deceived, it if is possible (see Matt. 24:24). False signs and wonders will rise, along with false prophets and false christs. – See more at: http://www.jenniferleclaire.org/articles/a-revival-of-the-devils-witchcraft-is-rising#sthash.6U6zZmO8.dpuf The gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing. God uses the weak and the foolish to confound the wise. Do not be wise in your own eyes.

Could you please tell me if there are Bible studies out there geared towards this way of thinking?
I would love to dwelve deeper but I need some help.
I really enjoy these blogs. I am so thankful that I found them because of wanting to seek Him more.

Tanya,
I hate to say it, but I don’t know of any out there. Similar positions are growing, and I know some areas have meet-up groups to discuss this sort thing, but finding them is hard. Have you tried a google search for your area?

Awesome is all I can say. Once I came out of secular religion and stopped believing what I was taught to believe about the Adam and Eve story I felt what you’re saying in this article but was never able to explain it. Thank you again

Hi! I have to say that while I appreciate your fresh take on the biblical text, I am a bit troubled by your interpretation- in that, to come to the conclucions you do in the text – one has to super-intet a meaning upon the author of the text – the text in itself in no way hints at a kind of reading that suggests that the creation of Eve resulted in any kind of seperation – the author states that God saw that it was not good for the man to be alone, and concequently created the woman – in any case I am very interested to learn more about the hermenutical model you apply when reading the text – I abm indeed open to new impulses, as long as they are grounded in respect for the literature at hand 🙂
Best regards

Kriss…
Thank you for your comments and thoughts. But I am going to have to disagree. Think, Adam and Eve’s eyes were opened when they partook. What was it that they partook of? And why did God say, because of this now man has become like one of us? You have to look beyond scholarly interpretation sometimes. I can see you are a deep and intelligent thinker, and if you will go deeper you will see what I am referring to. The book of Genesis is not a literal interpretation of man’s beginning of physical existence, but how consciousness fell.
