Before I address the Israelites crossing the Red Sea, I decided it would be more beneficial to fast forward and write a piece on the esoteric meaning of the Ark of the Covenant. Doing so will give you more knowledge on how valuable it is to raise your consciousness.
First of all it is important to realize that Moses never constructed a golden box known as the Ark, and he didn’t converse with a separate omnipotent being above the Mercy seat. Rather these components of the Exodus narrative describe something that happens in your head on the way to your own Promised Land.
The true Ark of the Covenant rests atop your shoulders. More specifically, the Ark represents your brain. Even as Jesus was crucified at Golgotha (the place of the skull), representing part of the ascension process that takes place in your head, so too does the Ark. And in order to truly commune with God, that communion must take place within the confines of your mind. As we’ll soon see, communing with God has nothing to do with talking with a separate being. It has much more to do with becoming ONE with something much bigger than you!
As Jesus said stated:
“that all of them may be one , Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us…” (John 17:21).
How could the church preach the above verse any way but metaphysical?
Now let’s break down the image of the Ark. Two Cherubim’s faced each other on top of the lid. But what’s significant here is that the wings of the Cherubim are spread over the ark, covering and protecting what lies beneath. There is one on the left and one on the right. Now consider that your brain is made up of a left and right hemisphere. The covering of your brain is the cerebrum. So just as the Cherubim covered something significant inside the ark (the brain) so too does the left and right cerebrum cover some very important glands that serve as a link between our physical and spiritual natures. One such component is the pineal gland, also known as the third eye.
This is what Jesus referenced when he stated:
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light” (Matt. 6:22).
As if the above information wasn’t enough, I am now going to give you plain scriptural information that will confirm that the ark is symbolic of the human brain. Consider that the stone tablets making up the Ten Commandments were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant. Now remember that the ark symbolizes the mind and brain.
The Ten Commandments are universal in nature. When one becomes enlightened, the Ten Commandments are realized and lived out from within. This is especially true after the awakening of the third eye, or pineal gland. Now consider the scripture below from Jeremiah:
“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write in on their hearts” (Jeremiah 31:31)
The prophet Jeremiah is declaring that the law is meant to be in the mind and heart permanently, not something which should be obeyed from an external law book or outward code. This is about something that happens “within” you. Let’s also read the very next verse:
“No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me…” (Jeremiah 31:34).
Someone who has experienced enlightenment no longer serves the ego. The law was written for the ego, but the spiritual man who is not under the operation of the ego lives by grace (enlightenment / Christ consciousness.)
This is the entire reason the Ten Commandments were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant; it was to serve as a symbolic image of what was to truly be experienced by a true Israelite (spiritually enlightened person).
Let me take you back to the image of the Cherubim for a moment. Have you ever wondered why God placed Cherubim to the entrance of the Garden of Eden to protect it? If you have read my article on how Adam and Eve represent different aspects of consciousness, then you understand that the Garden of Eden wasn’t a literal place either. It’s a state of the mind. Since the cerebrum serves as a covering for the spiritual glands located underneath their covering, then it makes sense that God would place Cherubim to guard the entrance to Eden. In order for us to get back to Eden, we have to be awakened! We should also note that the Cherubim held a flaming sword. This fiery sword represents the logos, or cosmic energy that is responsible for awakening the third eye!
Do we find any imagery similar to this when talking about the Ark of the Covenant? Yes, we do! Consider the description given in the Bible when Moses talks to God above the mercy seat on the Ark of the Covenant:
“And there shall I meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim (cerebrum of the brain) which are upon the ark of the testimony…” (Exodus 25:22).
Now remember that the scripture says God is light. When God communes with us and the pineal gland is opened, it is said that a bright white light is often seen by the participant. Didn’t Paul see the exact same thing, Christ as a bright white light, as he was knocked off his horse on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3)?
As we continue with how God speaks to Moses from between the mercy seat in Numbers, we read:
“And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him (the LORD), he heard a voice of one speaking to him from off the mercy seat…And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying…when thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick (Numbers 7:89-8:2).
It should be obvious that the seven lamps represent the seven chakras that cosmic energy must flow through in order to experience enlightenment.
How does this knowledge help us?
As you read more the scripture, continue to look at how each character and symbol represents us. The Ark of the Covenant has always supposed to be symbolic of the human brain. The brain is not just a physical feature. Not only does it act as a receiver and transceiver of God’s consciousness, but the brain houses some very special glands that serve as gateways between the physical and spiritual worlds. If Buddha was right when he said that “All is mind,” then it is truly through the mind that we gain higher awareness and operate on a higher plane of consciousness.
Think about what the literal Ten Commandments were truly needed for. They are needed for the man who is controlled by the ego. The ego needs to be kept in check, and thus the commandments serve that function until Christ (Christ consciousness) comes!
Not many people know that the Ten Commandments came from chapter 125 in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. That was written centuries before the Torah. The Ark of the Covenant also came from Egypt. Found within the king’s chamber of the Great Pyramid was one furniture piece—a box with the same dimensions as the Ark of the Covenant as it is described in the Bible! Israel, or Isis, Ra, and Elohim also come from the name of Egyptian Gods. My point is that believing the scriptures are meant to be literal is not what’s important. It’s the hidden spiritual meanings within them that matter! Never stop digging and questioning.
Mainstream Christianity has misunderstood all of this imagery for centuries. One cannot worship God in spirit and in truth by worshiping something “out there.” All truth is contained within you. Mainstream Christianity has taught us that by “believing” the literal Gospel this entire spiritual process is assured to us by Christ. But what they fail to realize is that Christ is to be formed in you! It is not about believing a literal story. This brings no rising of consciousness.

Love this post, Joshua. I read somewhere that fluorinated water damages the pineal gland. Have you come across this information?
Christine
Joshua Tilghman says
Christine,
Yes, fluoride does damage the pineal gland. In fact, the pineal gland is one of the few places in the body where fluoride collects. It causes a grainy build-up there and some spiritualists believe it can damage it’s ability to help connect us to our higher self.

This has been very informative…I was raised Roman Catholic and have always felt I had a good relationship with the Lord. As per your questions, I have always believed Jesus was based off of a real person / people. But the Gospel stories are not meant to be entirely literal. The Bible is an awesome spiritual roadmap when interpreted spiritually and not literally. The literal has always divided people, but a spiritual understanding will bring humanity together. Does this make sense? All the major religions have at their core the same teaching.

Hi Joshua,
I read this post when first it was posted but i wonder why i didn’t comment on it in relation to my own body – mind symptoms of spiritual awakening cause this is one of the spiritual network group/community i respect and regard a lot. Yes, you are right. Prior to my awakening awareness, i saw/witnessed this said pure white light within my brain. Although i new the experience was something unique, i didn’t know that was a communion with God within, i wasn’t connected to this post as well. No one to share my experience with, since in my area – Africa, no one and hitherto i am yet to meet someone talk about awakening within. Every body talks about going to church/mosque to worship a “God” out there.
Yes Christine, you are right with regards to what fluorinated water does harm the pineal. I have read many good articles where even tooth past that contains fluoride damages the pineal ability to help one in the ascension process. Again, in Africa, where do i get tooth past that does not contain fluoride since every product on the market is for the third world.

Hi Joshua and hi Bernhardt Adjedi. I have read both the article above and your comment to the article. I too am from Africa (Uganda), and am working hard to get enlightened. Am glad to know and understand the truth. The fact is here in Africa, the Christian churches take the bible literally, they don’t understand the underlying concepts of ascension. You talked about opening the third eye or fully activating the pineal gland, how can one achieve this. Am involved in meditation following the teaching of Paramahansa Yogananda, he too teaches about concentration on the point btn the eyebrows during meditation. I have developed a strong intuition, but can’t quite yet see this divine white light. However how did you guys open up your third eyes?
Joshua Tilghman says
Hello Joshua. While I do believe that opening the third eye is what the ancients taught and believe, I must say that this is not something I can claim to have achieved. This process may take lifetimes to achieve. Best wishes on your own journey.
Johnny says
Hi,
Your enthusiasm to the teachings is much appreciated. Although I must say that the goal is not to open the third eye or in that case develop spiritual powers — opening the third eye and development of attainments/siddhis are natural byproducts when the consciousness has evolved – they are best be seen as stones you pick up along the road to tell you that you are on the right track.
Hi Joshua,
I read your elucidations and you have the basic solid framework, other similar websites actually throw in far more complicated (but I should say pedagogical) discussions including Kabbalah, the Tarot and the Hebrew letters. Josh, very enjoyable reading.
I agree that the ark of covenant has esoteric meaning. It is symbolic, referring to the spiritual power that exists within us, the power that will bring us into the promised land if we stop resisting it, which the children of Israel (representing us) illustrated for us in the wilderness, resisting Moses, resisting the Spirit that is working through our Mind to get us to think differently, the meaning of repentance. But this is just the beginning. The ark is the source of the power, which works through the mind. That source is the Heart, the two cherubim symbolizing the “two witness” of the heart : the spirit of God, which is love (an emotion of the heart) and the word of God, which is truth (the seed of the heart). The wings symbolize the spiritual protection that comes with being led of this source (i.e. “the spirit of truth”) that Jesus Christ embodied, and which “every eye (referring to the third eye) shall see” (Rev. 1:7 ), seeing this power working through their own mind and heart.
Buddha would be “all is mind” because he is of the east, which is associated with the mind; with mind and body disciplines (e.g. meditation/levitation). Then there is the deeper level, I’ll coin it “all is heart. ” Jesus was the ascended master associated with the Sacred Text of the west, and as the east is linked to the mind, the west is linked to the heart; with a heart discipline, which Jesus advocated.
The Ten Commandments, 10 pertaining to The Mind, which Israel (10 tribes) symbolizes, are to be kept at the level of The Heart, which is why Moses ascended the mount (symbolizing the heart) to receive them. Keeping them at this deeper heart level is how we become the true (spiritual) Israel. The children of Israel had broken them, both in spirit and in letter, which Moses illustrated as he came down off the mount.
Paul was “changed in a moment and twinkling of an eye.” But this can only be said of the mind, not of the heart, as the prophet Isaiah said: “Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth (symbolizing the heart) bring forth in one day? ” It takes time for the earth to bring forth her fruit. Religious Christians proclaim to be changed, proclaiming they are “born again and saved,” but it is through the delusion of their mind, not through the reality of their heart. Paul symbolizes organized religion, where you serve God through your mind via perpetual repentance and ritual.
I just read in a book that the box in the Great Pyramid was 10″ x 12″, which if true is pointing us to both the mind (10) and the heart (12), which is why there were 12 apostles following the one that advocated healing/purification of the heart. Jesus told his apostles that they would judge the twelve tribes of Israel, which formulates to 12 x 12, as the # 12 represents judgment (as we see in our own judicial system). 12 x 12 = 144, the number of casing stones covering (protecting) the pyramid, estimated to be 144 thousand, representing a spiritual measure:
“And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four (144) cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.” Revelation 21:17
Isis, Ra, and Elohim = Is-ra-el. I love that Josh!
In the word ELOHIM we see the Godhead: EL=God. OH=Son. IM-Holy Spirit, the “I AM.”
Thanks for sharing how the scriptures pertain to the workings of the mind. Amazing stuff!
Joshua Tilghman says
Hi Sandra,
As always, thanks for this wonderful and thought-provoking comment. You have added some great information about the Ark. I completely resonate with your first paragraph because the Ark is also a symbol for the causal body. This is the power within us, but it must be built up through the transitory personality over many lifetimes.
As far as the Buddha stating that all is mind, I believe he was correct. All is consciousness, and the mind he speaks of here encompasses the entire universe. It is through consciousness itself that we conceive of what we call God, the knowing of ourselves. I believe consciousness unfolds automatically as it must interact with itself. In manifestation, it must begin to operate through duality. But somewhere along the path consciousness becomes conscious of itself through the many forms it manifest through.
The heart, like the Ark, is also a symbol for the causal body which exists on the upper mental plane. This plane as you probably already know is known as the Buddhic plane. This is where the spirit flows from to infuse the lower mind and help raise it.
For me, Paul also represents the heart since he travails in birth until the Christ be birthed within us.
Great comment, thanks!
Sandra L Butler says
Hi Josh,
As for reincarnation. We have a different understanding . It does not require many lifetimes to build up this internal power (as you put it). If there ARE many lifetimes (an eastern concept) each lifetime presents us with the opportunity to overcome the karma of any past(s) lifetimes, otherwise we would be limited, and God is not about limitation.
We have the ability to restore this power in THIS lifetime, the Bible providing the detailed process for this regeneration. Jesus (having suffered all things) shows us this by overcoming the pain and suffering of his own childhood, which I believe he completed between the ages of 18 and 30, which would have been 12 literal years. But if we say there was no literal Jesus (a very deceptive “new age”concept in my opinion) it provides us (who are physical beings) with an excuse NOT to get down to business and do our spiritual work in THIS lifetime, which Jesus completed in HIS lifetime and instructed the apostles (those seeking truth) to complete. We are (as of the year 2000) in the 7th day, by which time man should have completed these spiritual works, but which have not been completed due to old age religions beliefs, which have been cleverly wrapped in a ” new age” wrapping. This is why the serpent is called “subtitl”…cunning, crafty.
The “duality” is of the heart, where there is two manner of fruit (good and evil/truth and lies). To discover what lies we have conceived of throughout our life will require us to enter that narrow gate Jesus spoke of; the kingdom of God, symbolizing the realm of The Heart. In discovering the evil seed (lies) and eliminating them through the power of the heart (NOT through the power of the mind) the duality no longer exists. The mind is renewed through the transformation of the heart. It is through this transformation of the heart that christ is birth from within.
Paul was NOT chosen by Jesus for a reason, to show us two very different foundations. My teacher used to call “Paul” a liar. Since I had no religious influence that statement didn’t bother me, but I have found over the years that it really pisses off the religious Christian. Paul symbolizes organized religion (as I stated above) and his supposed great enlightenment on the road to Damascus is representative of the great transformation religious Christians believe they have experienced, proclaiming to be “born again and saved,” but it is a lie. We are not changed in a moment and twinkling of an eye, which may be one of the reasons the spiritual Christians hiding out in the caves around the Dead Sea wrote the words, “Paul the liar,” which was brought to light in the very first documentary on the Dead Sea Scrolls, but never mentioned again in subsequent documentaries. Paul’s teachings are the source the of the lies accepted by religious Christians, but they also serve to correct that error. It will be x- religious Christians that provides the truth that will correct the error in their Christian brothers, the work of the first 4 churches in the book of Revelation.
So let us roll up our sleeves and do the spiritual work in THIS lifetime! Believing it requires many lifetimes to reach perfection is simply not true and causes complacency.

I do believe in the metaphorical interpretation of the bible. It is the ONLY way to understand the true message. I do however think that the flaming sword held by the angel to prevent adam and eve from eating again from the tree of life had a different meaning. The sword as represented in Revelation means the truth which proceeds from the mouth of christ meaning His message. Fire is always something which purifies. Hence, I believe that the truth (sword) prevented Adam (Mankind) from again eating from the tree of life. Hence the ego driven man is repelled by the truth which prevents him/her from eating from the tree of life. only when there is a spiritual awakening and death to ego can man again eat from the tree of life.
As for Adam and Eve I see something slightly different also. Without Eve (subconcious) man was merely an animal without the ability of subconcious thought and reasoning. He was merely the most intelligent animal creation but nonetheless still created from the earth (elements) as the rest of creation. With the introduction of Eve (Subconcious) now mankind was truly alive and truly had free will and hence could now commune and be united with the divine. Reason and subconcious (Eve)were now present along with the Adam (conscious, animalistic) nature. We were truly now “divine” beings. We engaged in both physical (Adam) nature like the rest of the kingdom (Eat, sleep, reproduce, breath, etc) but also had our Eve nature (reason, self awareness, contemplation of the divine, spirit). Hence it was “Eve” who tempted adam and hence as scripture notes we died THAT DAY. Although physically (Adam) lived on.
Now spiritually dead we (Adam) were repulsed, hard hearted, repelled by the truth (Angel, sword, tree of life)
Christ was born by and through a woman(Eve, spirit, from above, divine) but not from a physical man. Christ had no earthly (Adam) father.
Hence Christ was able to defeat the ego and physical animalistic man due to his very spirit nature. Remember the devil (Adamic nature not literal Devil) tried to tempt christ with physical needs i.e, Hunger, Power, safety. The three temptations are the basic lower needs to survive in the physical plane of reality. you need to eat like any other animal, Survival of the fittest – power which is seen in the animal kingdom, and protection/safety for self preservation as seen in the physical animalistic adamic creation. Christ overcame that because he was born from above.
Just an idea!
Kyle

Kyle,
Interesting and thought provoking comment. Thanks!

“Virgin birth” is actually when we give birth to ourselves, that is when Christ consciousness is born within us. This is a “virgin birth” because it is not a physical birth as it was when our bodies were born. “Adam and Eve” allegory is a story about the fall, that is when ego takes over which always happens way before Christ is born. For example, I imagine it like this: we are all born of the flesh when our mothers give us birth. Then at about age 8 (or whatever) this ego starts to work within us and we really do not get rid of it until much later when life kind of forces us to start seeking Christ consciousness because ego has caused us much suffering. So then eventually we put the “Satan”(ego/mind/brain which is the bringer of knowledge/judgment about things) behind our spirit, make it the servant. Jesus at some point says: “Get behind me Satan for it is written you shall serve the spirit”. This is what happens to all of us on our path to spiritual awakening: ego keeps popping up and we must take control of it, but it can and does serve the spirit. For example, you do need your brain/mind to read Scriptures and this blog. Ego is in the head as well and needs to be reformed. This is why Scriptures were written.
And come to think of it, we are all born from “above” even physically. A woman will not get pregnant no matter what if God (life, force of life, Universe, Infinity, etc) does not allow it, even with all our medical advances….. And sometimes a woman will get pregnant no matter how much she tried to prevent it…. When we acknowledge that there is a higher power that controls everything, then we acknowledge also being born from “above”. Great blog Joshua, thank you!

The flaming sword sounds like a meteor. Much of the Bible/Egyptian Book of the Dead/Sumerian Texts are based on astronomical observations.

I also agree with Sandra in one instance that we can overcome right NOW the cycle of what some call reincarnation. I personally don’t like the word myself. I see no reincarnation but rather continuity of existance on this plane because as eternal beings we cant obtain eternity in the spirit realm without being born again. Our Adamic nature merely regrows much like a tree/plant. These allegories are all throughout the bible. Plant grows/dies/seed/grows/dies/seed and on and on. Were planted in the ground (burial) and born anew with our Adam (physical) nature again until we are born spiritually. If you are on this blogsite talking about things on this level your probably on the ride for the last time (Thank GOD!). That’s my take. I aint comin back! The ride has been fun but I’m getting off. This physical body is getting buried for the last time this go around.

I have read many works of enlightenment and a friend of mine referred me to your blog just the other day because he knows my interest in Spirituality. What an act of Grace. These are the in-depth Bible explanations I have been wishing for. Thank you a million.
Now there is this question which bothered me for some time until I came around it. That was Jesus Christ not a physical person and walked on the face of the earth and people saw and talked to him?
My understanding is that, Yes! Jesus was physically on earth, but being Christ is a realization of our true nature as being one with the Universe and God. And that each and every one of us has the Christ in us awaiting realization. What do you think? Is that a correct interpretation?
Joshua Tilghman says
Geoffrey…
This is a tough question. My personal opinion is that Jesus is based on a real historical person / persons, but the Jesus as he is portrayed in the Gospels is mostly myth. Myth has much more power on the subconscious than a literal interpretation.
I do appreciate the encouragement! Sorry my reply was so late.

Geoffrey,
I whole-heartedly believe Jesus literally walked upon this earth, and did all the things attributed to him. As for this being Christ through the realization of ones true nature? More feel-good, skip over the spiritual work, new age B.S. There, I said it! Jesus (called The Christ) warned us that if any man says, Lo, here is Christ , or there; believe it not.” Matthew 24:23. And there are a lot of people claiming to be Christ these days, becoming the very “false Christs” Jesus is referring to in verse 24, because “christ” is not about a person. It’s about a power. YES, we were “made in the image of God,” but man has not maintained this image, OR its power, requiring a revitalization and regeneration (restoration) process, which those proclaiming to “be Christ” are skipping over. A great deception, spreading like wildfire, as Jesus said, “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” Matthew 24:5.
Geoffrey says
Sandra,
I see you contradicting yourself. I agree with you that Christ is a realization of the highest evolution of being Godlike. That does not mean you become God. But the realization that you are made of the same stuff, alone, can make be fearless and empowering.
Those who call themselves Christ, I do not know. But I know is we have enlightened souls on this Earth who have evolved to a very high consciousness and not necessarily to level of Jesus. Mind you Consciousness has been calibrated from 1 to 1000. Jesus Christ had a level of 1000. The critical level of knowing the difference between truth and falsehood, alone is 200. Above 200 one knows truth when he/she hears or sees it. However, most of the world lot is below 200 and that means the majority live in falsehood thinking it is the truth. And that is why the world is in the pathetic situation that we are witnessing today.
Quoting the bible rightly that -“We were created in the image and likeness of God” and then go ahead and say that man has not maintained this image, or power, I find it misleading. It’s not about maintaining the image or power, but man’s forgetfulness of who we truly are.
Let me give you an example. Imagine of a drop of water and the ocean. A drop of water and the ocean are made of the same stuff, but the drop of water is not the ocean in terms of power. That is exactly who we are compared to God. God is the ocean and we are the drop.
Anyway, I leave it to you to consider. Realization is not for everybody. But each and everyone of us has his/her own time of grace in different life times.
I very much agree with the esoteric interpretations of the bible by Joshua to your literal one.
In any case be blessed.
Geoffrey.

Geoffrey,
I very much like your 1 to 1000 comment, which we find in Saul and David…Saul (associated with the mind) with his 1000’s and David (associated with the heart) with his 10,000’s.
God said, “Let US make man in OUR image; after OUR likeness,” the OUR being the two divine attributes of God (SPIRIT and WORD; Genesis 1:2,3)… “And the SPIRIT of God moved…and God SAID. Physical manifestations of these were: Moses and Aaron; Joshua and Caleb; Elijah and Elisha; John and Jesus. These two attributes are referred to as the “two witnesses; two olive trees, two olive branches,” which is the spiritual anointing through which we are spiritually (mentally and emotionally) healed IF that is what we truly desire.
When we entered this world we were pure with respect to this spiritual image, possessing a holy SPIRIT (pure love) and a righteous WORD (pure truth). A child is incapable of lying until he is taught fear. According to the biblical text we began replacing love with fear and truth with lies just past the tender age of 4 due to outside influences, bringing the level (as you refer to it) down. The pure spiritual essence became diluted (or diminished). And yes, this is why the world is in the pathetic situation it is in today. To restore this spiritual essence to its former state requires a revitalization of our holy spirit (a quickening: to revitalize) and a regeneration of our word of truth (regenerate: to re-create, reconstitute, or make over, esp. in a better form or condition). “The last Adam becomes a quickening spirit.” “And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me in the regeneration…”
T0 realize something is to grasp or understand it, clearly. But we must then implement (perform) what we understand through (internal) ACTION, which is why Jesus said, “believe the works,” the word “believe” meaning “to put action to.” I have found that realization (like believing) is to most people something that takes place in the mind rather than in the heart. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!
We have six (metaphorical) days of (spiritual) works to perform, which results in the creation of “a new heaven and a new earth,” symbolizing “a new mind and a new heart.” This new state of being (level 1000) is called “new Jerusalem” (Rev. 21:1,2).
If you agree with the esoteric interpretations of the Bible you will find what I write about of great interest.
Godspeed,
Sandra

um, I enjoy your logic in pulling the necessary bible texts towards your end. alt5hough what the numerous other biblical accounts giving clear reference to plagues and boils as a result of the ark falling into enemy hands. these punishments cant surely be symbolic as well. can they? for that matter why even write out the manuscript of the biblical stories passed down if they cant be taken literally?
Joshua Tilghman says
Hi Drake. To answer your question, myths can be much more powerful than literal stories. Think about the impact of Greek mythology even on people today. Myth often has a greater impact on the human psyche because the characters and plot lines are symbolic of spiritual concepts that cannot be explained with literal history.
And sure the boils and plagues can be symbolic. Why not?
Leo als lkkb says
Just as symbolic as the corona virus ?
Sandra L. Butler says
Definitely, Leo, which is why it is so important to understand the symbolism behind the event (e.g. corona virus). The characters and plot lines of the Bible (literal history) are ALL about spiritual concepts, and in great detail, more than any myth can reveal, but to understand them one must learn the symbolic language of the Bible.

Hi Josh & everybody else:
I suspect Jesus was a real person, a revolutionary in fact. His thinking was way off the charts for His time. For the Divine Jesus we have to look somewhere else and I suspect that was the Emperor Constantine who created the Jesus we know today. My understanding is that there is some evidence that points to His existence found in the Holy land through various digs and so forth. In any case it will all come out sooner rather than later and we will be the more enlightened for it.
Marti
Joshua Tilghman says
Hi Marti,
This does bring up a good question: where does the evidence for Jesus lie? Is it mostly in literature, archeological digs, etc. I don’t think there is any evidence as far a archeological digs go, but if anybody ever finds it please send it my way!

I recently came across a book on the lost secrets of the ark, then last night was flicking through channels when I came across a documentary about a man called Ron Wyatt who discovered the actual ark in Jerusalem in about 1980.I got on his website and read the story.Apparently Jesus’s tomb was directly above the ark and through a crack in the stone his blood seeped directly onto the ark.I googled the real meaning of the ark and this lead me to you.I realise everything is allegory, but what do you think Jesus’s blood on the ark means?I have been reading all your posts and they resonate deeply with me.I acknowledge the God within and I have had many spiritual experiences.Your insights would be greatly appreciated.By the way I read somewhere that pyramid means the fire in the middle.
Joshua Tilghman says
Hi Anne,
Thanks for commenting. I, too, have researched Wyatt’s discoveries, but I believe the story of Christ is symbolic. His struggle is our struggle. The story of Jesus was written down to show the process that happens within us, which gives the story much more meaning as it relates to us than the literal story. It is said that Jesus’ blood was poured on a heavenly altar in Hebrews. While I am sure Wyatt believes what he found is significant, I didn’t think he provided the evidence to prove his claims.
Sandra L. Butler says
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Hebrews 9:12 (KJV)
What does Jesus symbolize? What does the blood (in this context) symbolize? What is the holy place? When we understand the symbolism, we understand what has taken place within us.

i’m very grateful for this piece. you just helped me to build on my understanding that our body is the temple but i will disagree with a comparison that i hope will add to you’re comparison. i believe that a very important organ represents the ark however it is not the brain but in fact the heart itself. we know from reading scripture that the top of the ark is the mercy seat which is a also a throne. when we accept Christ as our savior he sits on the throne of our heart. then we look into revelation chapter 4. being transported into the throne room of God john saw a sea of glass like crystal representing the pericardium. it is a sac that of water that holds the heart in place and helps it work properly. next we know that our heart has 4 chambers. representing the four beasts. and the one that blew mind…..john sees elders surrounding the throne. 24 to be exact. and what do we have surrounding our heart? 24 ribs! thanks to you joshua i now know that our brain represents the 2 cherubim on to of the ark. i pray that the info that i provided adds some pieces to the puzzle for you. i also pray that u would consider that God shows real things made of matter to help us better understand his word and who he is and that we can take the Bible literally. thanks again for for you’re wonderful insight!
Joshua Tilghman says
My pleasure, Jason, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject matter as well.
Sandra L. Butler says
Jason,
AMEN!!! The temple is the body on the carnal/physical level, which took a period of 40 and 6 to built. It takes a little over 40 weeks (40.06) for the body to be made or formed in the womb. The deeper spiritual meaning of the temple is (as you say) the heart, sharing the same symbolic meaning as the womb. The throne also symbolizes the heart. What sits on the throne is Jesus, symbolizing Truth. But only AFTER the regeneration, which takes place through a spiritual or internal judgment, AFTER which time one “stands on a sea of glass,” which is to see clearly through something related to the heart, made possible through what the two cherubim symbolize, which is not the brain (from this perspective), but rather work through the brain (mind) via the heart. The number 12 represents judgment, the number 24 representing the two-fold judgment (mind and heart) that is to take place within us.
Jason says
Hello Joshua. I’ve been reading a few of your articles on this website and as I became more interested in the idea of these hidden meanings since I’m somewhat open minded. But I’ve been compelled to ask a couple questions. Right now I’m trying to understand how all of this works but from the info that I’ve gathered from a few places I’ve read that the seven chakras and the third eye and things of such have to do with psychic abilities and things of that nature and was wondering how all of the meditation shenanigans described in these articles have any relevance to all of the biblically forbidden things such as mediumship, witchcraft, psychic abilities, etc that the bible stands firmly against. And also, do these things sit well with the concept of the baptism of the Holy Spirit concerning things such as speaking in tongues and divine healing and prophecy and other gifts of the spirit? I’ve read a few of these articles and I’m sorry if you’ve already addressed this already in one of them because I don’t know if you have or not but I’m not very educated on this subject so I probably sound very misinformed as to what all of this is but I’m just trying to understand how all of this works as a whole. I am nothing but a truth seeker and your input here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Joshua Tilghman says
Jason, sorry for the late reply. You ask a great question, but it’s quite a large topic, and a simple blog reply wouldn’t be sufficient. To really understand these concepts you’re going to have to stray outside traditional Christian and Jewish teachings and study the esoteric view. If you commit yourself to this, the picture will begin to become clear. It may even take a few months or years, but well worth. This site will provide a lot of information for you, but I recommend reading any esoteric material you can get your hands on. You shouldn’t believe all that you read, but rather suspend judgment and study accordingly for awhile. Things will align eventually.
Sandra L. Butler says
Hi Jason,
I’ll have a go at it.
“And when he had opened the seventh seal there was silence in heaven for the space of half and hour.” Revelation 8:1. Heaven symbolizes the mind, which through silence (e.g. meditation) opens the 7th seal or 7th chakra. Quieting the mind gives power to the heart, the dwelling place of the divinity. The third eye (inner eye) is associated with higher consciousness or spiritual sight—the meaning behind the mythological Cyclops, and the meaning behind “every eye (singular) shall see him.” Religion teaches against the things you mention because religion lacks spiritual knowledge. Religious Christians are children; unskilled in the spiritual Word of God, which is why the children of Israel were not permitted to partake in such things. Due to their lack of knowledge, they would NOT use them for their intended purpose.
CC Lucas says
This just blows me away….the truth grows deeper inside ones self as the word of God is studied; the conscience is opened to more revelation. Who knows maybe some day mainstream christianity will begin to grow in the direction of truth.

Me being a builder, it is obvious that God described how to build the Tabernacle and the Ark and everything is so beautifully described that if I was so inclined to, I could actually build the whole thing myself. LIKE A SET OF PLANS…..
I do not disagree with everything you have said. I just feel you are miss guided. God created everything and you are correct in some of the things written but then you state that the Tabernacle was never built. That is your Ego taking over and destroying such a plausible path of how God created man and how he communicates with us.
Draw a set of plans then write out in full description of how you want me to build that set of plans and then come back and read what you have written. You might then have a clue of what I am trying to say to you.

Great talk in trying to decode the real meaning of things written in the scriptures especially those complied in the Bible. Am not any of the scholars as to this regard but a deep lover of the word. Am so happy many people all over the world are seeking to uncover the deeper truth of the word to make them seen by the human properties. I believe all what we are striving at and or say its still the making of the Almighty Creator working in us to bring out these things still for the comprehension and understanding of man which shall in turn remain for man and will have still little or no effect on man because our Creator knows us more than we know ourselves. The mysteries of the mystery of the word can not be revealed by any man or spirit. Why? because we are all God’s creatures. Even Jesus the only begotten son did not but knew it.
In all i really admire the site and its articles. They are at a more higher level of consciousness. But still with a lot of limitations. We shall all continue to sink deep into the breaking of the ancient writings for which the writers at that time of out inspiration did not understood their write ups. For no man can understand the things of God save his son. not even the saints who are with him at that time and unto this time and the times to come.
Please, i love breaking into the truth if we can share more to this endless word sent to us by our Maker will be very grateful.
God Bless you all.

Holy father have mercy upon us all. please, if the ark and the tabernacle was not built then how do we describe the scriptures/word? please, we should be very careful as we penetrate the word less we all know what will befall us. If these things are disturbing us to comprehend, i plead you get to me on my address so we talk spiritually. For the word is for those who believe. And to believe we must possess the properties of Jesus and the saints. For no one can be God to decide on issues.
thank you all for understanding.

I am now reading your letter posted November 7th . 2012 . it is very enlightening . but I have one question that keeps coming to my mind . that is if all of this is true and accurate why , or maybe I should ask , why the scripture says that those that try to enter this tabernacle other than the priest , would die . I would like to understand why this is !
Leo aka lkkb says
Hi i am not familiar with this but have the feeling that it means one has to prepare to enter this place with the proper reverence and preparation or it’s effects may kill you.
Sandra L. Butler says
Hi Artis,
Because the high priest makes sacrifice for himself first, THEN for the people. Jesus (being the spiritual high priest) made sacrifice for himself first, meaning he went through the spiritual judgment (between the ages 18 to 30 I believe) through which he experienced a spiritual death. THEN he sacrificed his time to teach on spiritual sacrifice through his words and actions.
“But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood…” Blood (in this context) symbolizes death… spiritual death (in the good sense).

As always, great post Josh.
One thing that’s always scratched my head with those who believed in a literal Ark of the Covenant, is why would God command the construction of one when He/She forbade “graven images” in the 10 Commandments. Plus, how can it just “disappear”; or why didn’t Jesus mention it?
Reading your interpretation makes far more sense and I like how it flows with the rest of Scripture. Thanks for the post.
Peace.
edward says
My friend, God can command the construction of Noah’s Ark, King Soloman’s Temple, the Ark of the Covenant… It cannot be called a graven image as the intent is not to worship them but to be used as a vehicle.
Many of the teachings and words of Yeshua have not been recorded.
The temple was built by the wisest man on Earth and the protection of the ark (at a time of an invasion) must have crossed his mind. Let me share. When four of the Priests would stand on the four corners the Holy Of Holy where the ark was placed the pivot of the fulcrum would collapse and the Ark would be buried and never to be found by the enemies.
Collins 'ka-Abraham' says
Hi, these indeed are the days of enlightenment. However, I am confused by your stance of insisting “it was NOT literal” at every turn. Why can’t it be both? I believe SOME of the Bible narrations are quite literal, e.g. the narrative about the Ark. Yes, I agree, the meaning of the teachings IS NOT literal. But, to claim the stories are NOT literal simply bcoz the lesson GOD was teaching is definitely Spiritual rather than literal is counterproductive, for me. These things are NOT mutually exclusive. The story CAN be very literal but the meaning Spiritual, both at the very SAME time. Case in point, Pharisees argued with Y’eshua about washing of hands and he brutally scolded them & showed that what defiles comes from within. This is BOTH literal & Spiritual. GOD was trying to teach humanity about germs (which we discovered fairly recently) but the Jews turned the teaching into a RELIGIOUS CEREMONY and lost out. Keep up the good work. You are right that the teachings are not literal, but kindly point this out without denying the underlying events. Regards
Joshua Tilghman says
Collins…
I do not mean to confuse. In fact, the Bible narrative is based on literal history, in the fact that many of its teachings are centered around historical events. Does that help?
Leo aka lkkb says
I totally agree on this.
In fact i would like to add to this :
What we do not understand on a high level we will (create and) experience on a lower level.
And thus gain at least an inkling of the idea on the higher level.

This is new age spun into the gospel. So sad to see the power and glory of Christs message perverted in such a manner. One must ask, what about my sin? What about my eternal seperation from God? That was the purpose of his coming to begin with, he being the spotless lamb of God whom was provided as a sacrifice once and for all for our sins. No real Jesus, No real salvation. Read your bibles, it is living and powerful able to divide spirit and soul! Jesus will reveal himself to you! He is alive and ready to release you from this type of demonic deception. Ask in Jesus’ name and you shall recieve, the Truth will set you free.

adam=divine mind, eve=correct truth(gnosis). in the beginning both were the divine mind, the spirit of the truth of god(the immortal life force of mankind), and the life force in all living things! Correct truth became perverted or falsified when eve the soui which decides what to listen to and act upon went out on her own(the feminine principle of creation). of course adam represents the masculine side of creation. To correct this mindset that became dual instead of ONE, Eve must be corrected and brought under submission, and crucified, restoring dominion back to adam the divine mind! To do this christ- the truth of god in you as a seed before birth into the womb, must be allowed to be born or recognized among the many animal instincts that surround the infant. Animalistic desires is also the symbolism of eve! This is the true meaning of being born again or from above(truth-spiritual). Once realized by the soul(eve), a battle ensues as to who will rule! will it be herod(wickedness, lack of knowledge/ignorance to truth), or will it be david(divine-christ-mind from god?) Will the soul remain under a pharoah(worldly influence/ignorance to truth), or will moses be manifest to lead you out of bondage(egypt). Moses represents the christ-mind drawn from the water which is truth of gods word! the christ/the truth said “when you make the two(adam/spirit and eve/soul) ONE, the upper as the lower, the inner as the outer, and male neither male nor female, THEN, you can enter the kingdom(which is inside your skull! We must tell eve( our inner soul), that she will obey the christ(the word of spiritual truth), the divine mind. Actually say it out loud daily until you believe it!!!! Once you come out of yor ignorance to who and what you are, you cannot want to go back to egypt any more!

Joshua. Do you discuss what Moses prefigures/symbolises anywhere? My thoughts are around willpower or something like that. Perhaps there is something in the etymology which you know about? It is Moses that receives instructions concerning the building of the ark and tabernacle. It is Moses who must raise the bronze serpent for the healing of the people. But I feel my understanding is very limited and perhaps slightly too egocentric in that it could lead to an interpretation that it is within our own power to do what is necessary to achieve enlightenment.
Thanks though for the excellent site.

While you makever some interesting insights, I think you are ‘wearing a garment of two threads’ a bit. That is to say you are mixing theologies and over thinking things a bit.
Reincarnation is not part of Judaism. In fact, the book of Job disputes the concepts of karma and Reincarnation. And while most major belief systems teach oneness of being or monism (Judaism included) its the why and how that are very different. Whereas most eastern religions are about focusing inward, the Judeochristian tradition teaches that to overcome the self we must reach out. Hence the very different ideas of do no harm (found in Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, ect) and the uniquely Hebrew idea of proactively seeking out ways to be our brothers keeper and love our neighbor. One is passive, the other active.
Regarding the term ‘ark’.
Traditinally Hebrew writings are multilayered and are meant to be studied using what are called pardes. Each parde reveals a deeper meaning to scripture (which is somewhat existential in nature but does make specific and intentional points) The Bible uses intentionally duplicitous language throughout. There are very practical historical and philosphically reasons the Hebrews, like many ancient cultures did this. For example. The term translated as ark used in the OT is teivah. It literally means a box or The Word. Rather than the Ark being your mind, the Bible intentionally uses a play on words. In the story of Noah the ark (teivah is also used in the stoey of moses) can be interpreted literally as a box. However the story can be interpreted as a parable about navigating a deluge of teachings (water always symbolizes a teaching in Hebrew writings) by putting ourselves in God’s word (his teivah). When we do, we will find rest (noach).
Hope this helps
Joshua Tilghman says
But Rob,
While reincarnation is not part of traditional Judaic views, it is part of esoteric Judaic views, and there is a difference. That is the point of this site…to tread through the literal and understand the deeper and more historically accurate views of where the foundation for where organized religion has truly come from. Don’t give up on your research and intuitive knowledge. I promise it’s beneath the obvious.

My point is the ten commandments were destroyed so they for that reason can’t be found they don’t exist. God bless everyone.
